Which Suzuki hatchback should you pick?
| Alto K10 | Celerio | Wagon R | Epic Swift | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starting price (Rs) | 28,24,000 | 31,99,000 | 31,99,000 | 38,99,000 |
| Airbags | 2 | 2 | 2 | 6 |
| Claimed mileage (km/l) | 24.39 – 24.9 | 26.68 | 20.52 – 21.79 | 25.75 |
| Boot space (L) | 214 | 313 | 341 | 308 |
| Gearbox | Manual or AGS | Manual or AGS | Manual or AGS | Manual or AGS |
Suzuki's claimed mileage figures are brand figures, not what you will get in Kathmandu traffic. The pattern is clear, though: the Swift costs about Rs 7 lakh more than the Celerio (38,99,000 minus 31,99,000) and adds four airbags and a larger 1,197 cc engine. Fronx, Brezza or Victoris: which Suzuki SUV?
The Fronx is the cheapest of the three at Rs 42,49,000. Its entry versions list two airbags; the turbo versions from Zeta upward list six. The Brezza starts at Rs 48,99,000 and lists six airbags on every version where the figure is given. The Victoris starts at Rs 54,99,000 and lists six airbags throughout.
The difference between the Brezza and the Victoris at the bottom is Rs 6 lakh (54,99,000 minus 48,99,000). At the top of the range the Victoris also offers hybrid and all-wheel-drive versions and a panoramic roof, which the Brezza list does not. The Brezza is the better fit for a tight budget, and our Brezza vs Venue comparison puts it against a rival.
Is the Victoris hybrid worth the extra money?
The Victoris strong hybrid costs Rs 14 lakh more than the matching petrol automatic. The Zxi+ AT is Rs 81,99,000 and the Zxi+ THS (hybrid) is Rs 95,99,000, according to the official list. Suzuki claims 28.65 km/l for the hybrid and 21.06 km/l for the petrol automatic.
Here is the arithmetic, using Nepal Oil Corporation's petrol price of Rs 200 a litre and Suzuki's claimed figures:
- Petrol automatic: 200 ÷ 21.06 = about Rs 9.50 per km
- Hybrid: 200 ÷ 28.65 = about Rs 6.98 per km
- Saving: about Rs 2.52 per km, or roughly Rs 25,000 per 10,000 km
At that rate it takes more than 500,000 km to recover Rs 14 lakh in fuel savings, and real mileage is lower than the claim. So the hybrid is a choice about comfort and convenience, not a way to save money. The same logic holds for the Grand Vitara. For a wider look, see EV vs hybrid vs petrol in Nepal and our hybrid cars in Nepal guide.
What does the Suzuki Jimny cost, and is it the only 4WD?
The Jimny costs Rs 64,99,000 for the Zeta manual and Rs 75,79,000 for the Alpha AT DT. It is a five-seat 4WD with a low-range gearbox, 210 mm ground clearance and a 219-litre boot, Suzuki Nepal says. The Victoris Zxi+ 4WD (Rs 89,99,000) and the Grand Vitara Alpha 4WD (Rs 83,99,000) also offer all-wheel drive, but they are not described as having the Jimny's low-range gearbox.
What about the electric Suzuki E Vitara?
The E Vitara has four variants from Rs 52,99,000 to Rs 64,49,000. The Delta has a 49 kWh battery and a claimed 440 km range. The Zeta, Alpha and Alpha DT have a 61 kWh battery and a claimed 543 km. Both are brand claims, so real range will be lower, especially on hills. All list seven airbags. We cover the car in detail in our Suzuki E Vitara guide.
