Model Battery Claimed range Motor

Omoda E5 58.9 kWh 430 km Not listed
Jaecoo J5 Pro 50.6 kWh 405 km 155 kW
Jaecoo J5 58.9 kWh 461 km 155 kW
Jaecoo J6T Not listed Not listed Not listed

All ranges are brand claims. The distributor's pages do not name the test cycle, so treat them as best-case numbers and read our guide to WLTP, CLTC and other range tests. The J6T page gives no battery, motor or range figures, so we show none. The official site also notes that some specs and options may differ in Nepal.

The two J5 models show a clear pattern: the bigger battery adds Rs 5.00 lakh for 8.3 kWh and 56 km of claimed range (461 − 405). That is about Rs 8,900 per extra claimed kilometre (5,00,000 ÷ 56). On the Omoda, the same Rs 5.00 lakh step buys 8.2 kWh and 80 km (430 − 350), about Rs 6,250 per extra kilometre (5,00,000 ÷ 80). The pages we use list the same 155 kW motor for both J5 models, but other equipment may differ, so ask which features separate the trims.

Both families list a 540° camera view, a cruise control system and a long driver-assist list. The E5 pages list a 15.6-inch screen and features such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. The J5 pages list a longer set that includes rear cross-traffic alert and emergency lane keeping. The J6T page also lists a 15.6-inch screen and adaptive cruise control. Whether each feature is on every trim is something to confirm in writing.

What does it cost to run?

Using the claimed figures, battery size divided by range gives the energy the battery holds per 100 km. We price it at Rs 11.55 per unit: the Nepal Electricity Authority's Rs 11 top domestic rate plus the 5% VAT The Kathmandu Post reported from July 2026. This ignores charging losses, so real bills will be somewhat higher.

Model kWh per 100 km (claimed) Cost per 100 km 1,000 km a month
Omoda E5 Pro 14.5 (50.7 ÷ 3.5) about Rs 167 about Rs 1,673
Omoda E5 13.7 (58.9 ÷ 4.3) about Rs 158 about Rs 1,582
Jaecoo J5 Pro 12.5 (50.6 ÷ 4.05) about Rs 144 about Rs 1,443
Jaecoo J5 12.8 (58.9 ÷ 4.61) about Rs 148 about Rs 1,476

The gap between the cheapest and dearest row is only about Rs 230 a month at 1,000 km. Battery size and purchase price matter far more than running cost here. For a longer comparison with petrol, see EV vs petrol: the real 5-year cost and our home charger guide.

Paying for it

Nepal Rastra Bank limits private vehicle loans to 60% of the vehicle value. On a Rs 51.99 lakh car that is up to Rs 31.19 lakh (51.99 × 0.6), leaving about Rs 20.80 lakh to pay yourself. On the Rs 71.99 lakh J6T it is up to Rs 43.19 lakh, leaving about Rs 28.80 lakh. These use the ex-showroom price; registration and insurance come on top. Try your bank's rate in the EMI calculator and read the auto loan guide. Tax rules for EVs changed with the new budget, so see FY 2026/27 EV tax changes before you assume today's price will hold.
