Premium EVs in Nepal over Rs 1 crore: Hyundai Ioniq, Deepal E07, BMW, BYD Seal and Zeekr compared
Wheels of Nepal · Last updated: · 8 min read
Only two premium electric cars in Nepal carry an official price above Rs 1 crore today: the Hyundai Ioniq 5 at Rs 1.04 crore and the Deepal E07 at Rs 1.10 crore (indicative ex-showroom prices on the official sites, checked October 2026). BMW's iX models, the BYD Seal, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and the Denza D9 are all price on request.
That missing price is the story of this segment in 2026. The FY 2026/27 budget switched EV import tax from motor power to customs value, and the most expensive band now pays the most. This guide sets out what each premium EV offers on paper, which prices are official, and how the tax works at the top end. It is built from official figures; we have not driven these cars.
Why premium EVs got so much dearer
Until May 2026, Nepal taxed electric cars mainly by motor power. The new budget taxes them by customs value (CIF). The Kathmandu Post reported the bands: every EV pays 20% customs duty, then a clean infrastructure investment fee (CIIF) of 2.5% up to Rs 20 lakh, rising to 130% above Rs 50 lakh. A 5% road construction fee and 13% VAT come on top.
| Rs 15 lakh CIF | 42 % |
|---|---|
| Rs 25 lakh CIF | 71 % |
| Rs 35 lakh CIF | 92 % |
| Rs 45 lakh CIF | 171 % |
| Rs 55 lakh CIF | 227 % |

In our EV tax guide, a car with a Rs 55 lakh customs value comes to about Rs 1.80 crore once all four charges are added, before the dealer's margin. Taxes alone are 227% of its customs value. A car at Rs 15 lakh pays 42%.
The price of electric vehicles below Rs 5 million is decreasing.
The minister's comment covered cars under Rs 50 lakh. For cars above that line, the top band applies in full.
Official prices and what is missing
Indicative ex-showroom prices on each official Nepal site (checked October 2026). Where a site gives no price, we say so and show the last price reported by a news outlet, labelled with its date.

For comparison, two electric pickups have official prices in this range: the MG U9 Flagship at Rs 1.11 crore (introductory) and the Maxus eTerron 9 Premium at Rs 1.28 crore. See our electric pickups and vans guide.

What stands out:
- The Deepal E07 has the biggest battery and the highest power of the two cars with an official price, for about Rs 6 lakh more than the Ioniq 5.
- BMW's figures are thin. The iX2 page lists only battery, range, boot space and AC charging, and the iX3 page gives no battery size. OnlineKhabar reported an 80 kWh battery for the iX3 at its 2023 launch. BMW's iX1 page notes its 66.5 kWh is gross capacity; Business 360 reported 64.78 kWh usable.
- Range figures are not like for like. WLTP, NEDC and unnamed brand claims are different tests. Our glossary explains the terms.
- The Zeekr site says its performance figures come from initial testing of the mainland-China model.
Space and features we can confirm
- Ioniq 5: 3,000 mm wheelbase, 537 litres of boot space with the rear seats up, 160 mm ground clearance, 19-inch wheels (Laxmi Hyundai).
- Deepal E07: 3,120 mm wheelbase, 15.4-inch screen and integrated adaptive cruise control (Changan Nepal).
- BMW iX1: 490 litres of boot space, a panorama glass roof, a reversing camera with 3D view and BMW's Driving Assistant Professional (BMW Laxmi).
- BMW iX2: 583 litres of luggage space (BMW Laxmi).
- BYD Seal: double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension on the Premium and AWD versions; 8 years / 1,60,000 km battery and vehicle warranty, terms apply (Cimex).
- Zeekr X: seven airbags and a panoramic roof (Zeekr Nepal).
- Denza D9: an MPV with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and blind-spot detection (Denza Nepal).
Running cost and tax
Even at this price, electricity is cheap next to petrol. At Rs 11.55 per unit (NEA's top domestic rate plus 5% VAT; see our EV vs petrol guide), a full charge of the Ioniq 5's 58 kWh battery costs about Rs 670 (58 × 11.55), and the Deepal E07's 89.98 kWh about Rs 1,039.
Annual vehicle tax depends on the motor power in your bluebook and your province. Many premium EVs have motors above 125 kW, a band we could not confirm for Bagmati this year. See our bluebook and road tax guide and ask your transport office.
Banks may lend at most 60% of a private vehicle's value, so on a Rs 1.04 crore car you need at least about Rs 41.6 lakh yourself (1.0396 × 0.4), before registration and insurance. Try the EMI calculator.
