BYD Atto 1 in Nepal: is the cheapest BYD a sensible first EV?
Wheels of Nepal · Last updated: · 7 min read
Yes, for the right buyer. The BYD Atto 1 costs Rs 30.75 lakh (Dynamic) or Rs 34.80 lakh (Premium), indicative ex-showroom prices on the official Cimex site (checked October 2026), and it is a sensible first EV if you drive mostly in and around town. For most families the Premium is the one to stretch for: 70 km more claimed range and six airbags instead of four. See the full BYD Atto 1 price in Nepal list and specs.
What it is
The Atto 1 is BYD's smallest car, a five-door electric hatchback known in some markets as the Seagull. Cimex launched it in Nepal at the NAIMA expo in August 2025, The Himalayan Times reported. It is the cheapest way into a BYD in Nepal and sits below the Dolphin. This guide uses Cimex's official Nepal figures. We have not driven the car, so we say nothing about how it drives.
Prices and variants
| Dynamic | Premium | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Rs 30,75,000 | Rs 34,80,000 |
| Battery | 30.08 kWh | 38.88 kWh |
| Claimed range (WLTP) | 230 km | 300 km |
| Airbags | 4 | 6 |
| "Charging power" (Cimex) | 30 kW | 40 kW |
| Weight (Cimex) | 1,635 kg | 1,690 kg |
| Wireless phone charging | not listed | listed |
| Auto-folding mirrors | not listed | listed (The Himalayan Times) |
What the Rs 4.05 lakh step buys: a battery about 29% bigger, 70 km more claimed range, two more airbags (front, side and curtain on the Premium, Cimex says), a faster charging rating and a wireless charging pad. Since August 2026 both variants come with a 360-degree camera, The Himalayan Times reported.
| Dynamic, launch | 28.95 lakh |

| Premium, now | 34.8 lakh |

Both variants cost about Rs 1.8 lakh more than at launch. The government moved electric-car taxes to a value-based system in the FY 2026/27 budget; our EV tax explainer shows how that works. Cimex has not given a reason for the rise, so we do not claim one.
Battery, range and charging
Cimex lists the Atto 1's "charging power" as 30 kW (Dynamic) and 40 kW (Premium) but does not say whether that is AC or DC, and gives no charge times. Ask the dealer for the AC rate, the DC rate and the time from 20% to 80%.
WLTP figures are measured in a laboratory. Expect less on long climbs, at highway speeds and with the air-conditioning on. With 230 km claimed, the Dynamic is best kept to city use and short trips out of the valley; the Premium's 300 km gives more room for error.
The Atto 1 also has vehicle-to-load (V2L) of up to 2.2 kW, Cimex says, enough to run small appliances from the car.
Size, space and features we can confirm
From the Cimex page:
- 10.1-inch touchscreen with wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- LED headlights.
- 175 mm ground clearance.
- Claimed 0–50 km/h in 5.5 seconds in the spec table (a feature panel on the same page says 4.9 seconds).
Two official numbers disagree. The spec table gives the motor as 45 kW, while a feature panel says "up to 55 kW". We use the spec table's 45 kW. Cimex gives no length, seat count or boot size, so sit in it with your family before deciding.
Warranty
Cimex shows "8 Years / 1,50,000 KMs", with terms and conditions applied, but does not say what it covers (battery, motor or the whole vehicle).
What it costs to run
We assume 15 kWh per 100 km at the plug. That is our assumption, a little above the rated figure to allow for losses and hills. Electricity is priced at Rs 11.55 per unit: the Nepal Electricity Authority's Rs 11 top domestic rate plus 5% VAT, as The Kathmandu Post reported from July 2026.
| Atto 1 | |
|---|---|
| Cost per km (0.15 × Rs 11.55) | about Rs 1.73 |
| 1,500 km a month (225 units) | about Rs 2,599 |
| Full charge from empty | about Rs 347 (Dynamic), Rs 449 (Premium) |
With its 45 kW motor, the Atto 1 falls in the lowest EV tax band. Bagmati raised that band's annual tax for private EVs by Rs 1,500 this year, Fiscal Nepal reported. Check the exact amount at your transport office; our bluebook and road tax guide has the details.
Loan maths. Nepal Rastra Bank lets banks lend at most 60% of the price:
| Dynamic | Premium | |
|---|---|---|
| Most you can borrow (60%) | Rs 18.45 lakh | Rs 20.88 lakh |
| Least you pay yourself (40%) | Rs 12.30 lakh | Rs 13.92 lakh |
| EMI, 5 years at 7.90% (example) | about Rs 37,320 | about Rs 42,240 |
The EMI example uses Nepal Bank's published fixed EV loan rate. Your rate will differ; try the EMI calculator.
Rivals at a similar price
| Atto 1 Dynamic / Premium | Nammi Box | Leapmotor T03 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Rs 30.75 / 34.80 lakh | Rs 30.99 / 32.99 lakh | Rs 34.00 lakh |
| Battery | 30.08 / 38.88 kWh | 31.4 / 42.3 kWh | 37.3 kWh |
| Claimed range | 230 / 300 km WLTP | 330 / 430 km CLTC | 265 km WLTP |
| Airbags | 4 / 6 | not in our data | 6 |
The Nammi Box quotes China's CLTC test, so its range is not directly comparable: Wuling, for example, quotes its Eksion at 530 km on CLTC but 440 km on WLTP. The Wuling Mini EV is about Rs 10 lakh cheaper but has four seats. If your budget stretches, the Dolphin adds a bigger battery and boot for Rs 41.15 lakh. Wuling's Binguo is due back but has no price yet; see our Atto 1 vs Binguo comparison.
Who it suits
A good first EV if:
- Most of your driving is in the city or on regular routes well within the claimed range, with a margin to spare.
- You can charge at home or at work.
- You want BYD's dealer network (our directory lists Cimex outlets in 15 cities) on a budget of about Rs 31–35 lakh.
Look elsewhere if:
- You often drive long highway trips: 230 km (Dynamic) leaves little margin.
- You regularly carry five adults and luggage: check the space in person first.
- You need more than 175 mm of ground clearance for your road.
What to check before buying
- Test drive both variants on a climb, with the people you usually carry.
- Get the AC and DC charging rates and times in writing.
- Read the warranty booklet: what the 8 years / 1,50,000 km covers.
- Confirm the equipment on your variant (airbags, 360° camera, wireless charging).
- Ask the dealer for the full price with registration, tax and insurance in writing; see our guide to road tax and insurance.
