The MG S5 EV is a five-seat electric SUV with three versions in Nepal, from Rs 43.99 lakh to Rs 55.99 lakh (indicative ex-showroom "introductory" prices on the official MG Nepal site, checked October 2026). For most buyers the choice comes down to two questions: do you want the comfort and camera kit of the Luxury trim, and do you drive far enough to need the bigger 62 kWh battery?

Paramount Motors sells the S5 EV in Nepal. This guide uses only the figures on its official site. We have not driven the car, so we say nothing about ride, handling or build. For every number in one place, see the full MG S5 EV price list and specs.

Rs 43.99 lakhstarting price, Comfort 49 kWh (official introductory price, Oct 2026)
340–430 kmclaimed range, WLTP
49.1 / 62.2 kWhbattery sizes (LFP)
453 Lboot, 1,441 L with rear seats folded

Prices and variants

Variant Battery Claimed range (WLTP) Indicative ex-showroom price
Comfort 49 kWh 49.1 kWh 340 km Rs 43,99,000
Luxury 49 kWh 49.1 kWh 340 km Rs 50,99,000
Luxury 62 kWh 62.2 kWh 430 km Rs 55,99,000

MG labels all three prices "introductory", so they may change. All three share the same motor: 99 kW and 250 Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels, with a claimed top speed of 175 km/h.

What each step up buys

Comfort to Luxury 49 kWh (+Rs 7 lakh): equipment, not range. The battery and range stay the same. According to MG's feature table, the Luxury adds:

  • a panoramic sunroof and a power tailgate with foot-kick opening
  • a 360-degree camera (the Comfort has a rear camera)
  • 18-inch wheels in place of 17-inch
  • a 6-way electric driver's seat, front seat heating and steering wheel heating
  • leatherette-and-fabric seats and a leather steering wheel
  • wireless phone charging, a phone Bluetooth key and six speakers instead of four
  • rain-sensing wipers and electric folding mirrors

Luxury 49 kWh to Luxury 62 kWh (+Rs 5 lakh): battery only. You get 13.1 kWh more battery, 90 km more claimed WLTP range, and a higher quoted DC charging peak. The equipment list is the same.

So the cheapest way to more range is a Rs 12 lakh jump from Comfort to Luxury 62. There is no Comfort with the big battery. Measured as price per km of claimed range, the Comfort works out to about Rs 12,900 per km and the Luxury 62 to about Rs 13,000. The Luxury 49 is the most expensive of the three on this measure, at about Rs 15,000 per km. You pay that for its features, not its range.

Battery, range and charging

49 kWh versions 62 kWh version
Battery 49.1 kWh LFP (CATL) 62.2 kWh LFP (CATL)
Range, WLTP 340 km 430 km
Range, NEDC (same page) 415 km 515 km
AC charging 7 kW 7 kW
DC fast charging peak about 120 kW about 150 kW
DC 10–80% 24 min 26 min
V2L output 3.3 kW 3.3 kW

MG's spec table lists the two DC peaks and the two charging times without saying clearly which goes with which battery. We have matched them by battery size, so confirm with the dealer.

Why two range figures? MG Nepal publishes both a WLTP and an NEDC number for the same car. The WLTP figures are about 17–18% lower. That matches what the European Commission's Joint Research Centre found when Europe moved from NEDC to WLTP: pure-electric range came out at about 0.8 times the old NEDC figure. Use the WLTP number when you compare cars. Expect real trips to vary further with speed, hills, load and air-conditioning. Our explainer on WLTP, CLTC and NEDC range goes into the detail.

Home charging. On the 7 kW AC limit, simple arithmetic gives at least 7 hours for a full 49.1 kWh battery (49.1 ÷ 7) and nearly 9 hours for 62.2 kWh. MG does not publish an official AC charging time on this page, so treat these as minimums.

Size, space and features we can confirm

All variants
Length × width × height 4,476 × 1,849 × 1,621 mm
Wheelbase 2,730 mm
Ground clearance 175 mm (Comfort), 180 mm (Luxury); both marked with an asterisk
Boot 453 L, 1,441 L with rear seats folded
Kerb weight 1,705 kg
Towing up to 500 kg
Screens 12.8-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch driver display

MG lists the same safety kit for all three versions. That includes front, front-side, curtain and centre airbags, plus an ADAS set with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert. Every version also has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, tyre-pressure monitoring and rear ISOFIX points.

Warranty

MG Nepal's page sets out three layers of cover, each "whichever is earlier":

  • Vehicle: 1 year
  • High-voltage components: 3 years or 1,00,000 km
  • High-voltage battery pack: 8 years or 1,50,000 km

Our EV battery warranty guide compares the terms brand by brand.

What it costs to run

The two batteries do the same work per km on paper. Divide each battery by its WLTP range and you get about 14.4 kWh per 100 km for both. In real use, and counting charging losses, we use a cautious 18 kWh per 100 km at the plug. That is our own assumption, not an MG figure.

Electricity at the NEA domestic top block of Rs 11 per unit plus 5% VAT comes to Rs 11.55 per unit:

At 1,500 km a month Any MG S5 EV
Units 1,500 × 0.18 = 270
Monthly cost 270 × Rs 11.55 = about Rs 3,120
5 years (90,000 km) about Rs 1.87 lakh

Rivals in the same price band use electricity at almost the same rate on paper, so running cost will not decide this purchase:

Loan. Nepal Rastra Bank lets banks lend at most 60% of a private vehicle's value, so you need at least 40% down. For example, at Nepal Bank's published 5-year fixed EV loan rate of 7.90% (effective Kartik 1, 2083):

Variant Down payment (40%) Loan (60%) EMI, 5 years
Comfort 49 kWh Rs 17,59,600 Rs 26,39,400 about Rs 53,400
Luxury 49 kWh Rs 20,39,600 Rs 30,59,400 about Rs 61,900
Luxury 62 kWh Rs 22,39,600 Rs 33,59,400 about Rs 68,000

Your bank's rate may differ; try the EMI calculator.

Rivals at a similar price

Electric SUVs and crossovers in our catalogue with starting prices between Rs 44 lakh and Rs 53 lakh include:

  • The BYD Atto 2 (Rs 45.95–52 lakh) is the closest match on price. It has a 45.12 or 51.13 kWh battery, 312 or 345 km WLTP, a smaller 380 L boot, a taller 200 mm ground clearance and a longer 6-year warranty.
  • The Leapmotor B03X has a launch-offer price of Rs 44.99 lakh. It has a 53 kWh battery, 382 km WLTP and a 145 kW motor.
  • The Suzuki e Vitara (Rs 52.99–64.49 lakh) quotes 440–543 km without naming the test, so its range is not directly comparable.
  • The Proton e.MAS 7 (Rs 49.99–59.99 lakh) is priced "on the road, without insurance", not ex-showroom. Compare like with like.

Who it suits

The MG S5 EV may suit you if:

  • you want a big boot (453 L) and a long list of driver aids even on the cheapest version
  • you mostly drive in the valley and the 340 km WLTP Comfort is enough
  • you want a choice of battery sizes within one model

Look elsewhere if:

  • a long general vehicle warranty matters to you (MG gives one year)
  • you want the panoramic roof and 360-degree camera but not the Rs 7 lakh jump to the Luxury
  • you need seven seats; see our seven-seater EV comparison

What to check before buying

  • Test drive both batteries if you can. The weight is the same on paper, so focus on comfort and visibility.
  • Invoice wording: the variant name, battery size (49.1 or 62.2 kWh) and the "introductory" price you agreed.
  • Warranty in writing: vehicle, high-voltage parts and battery, each with years and kilometres.
  • Charger: whether a wall box is included, its power rating and who pays for installation.
  • Service access: MG's site lists 14 showrooms and 14 service centres across 15 cities. Check the one nearest you.
  • What comes on top: add registration, insurance and annual tax; our EV tax guide and guide to road tax and insurance help.
