The BYD Sealion 7 costs Rs 92,99,999 ex-showroom in Nepal (indicative price on the official Cimex site, October 2026), for a single version with a 71.8 kWh battery and 440 km of WLTP range. That is about Rs 18 lakh more than its July 2025 launch price. For other cars at every budget, see our car price in Nepal list.

The BYD Sealion 7 is a five-seat electric SUV, larger and more expensive than the Atto 3. Cimex, BYD's distributor in Nepal, launched it in Kathmandu in July 2025. The Himalayan Times called it the sixth BYD model Cimex had brought to Nepal.

This is a buyer's guide built from official figures. We have not driven the Sealion 7, so it covers the price, battery, range, charging, equipment we can confirm, running cost and rivals. It says nothing about how the car drives.

BYD Sealion 7 price in Nepal

Cimex lists a single version. Indicative ex-showroom price on the official site (checked October 2026):

Variant Battery Range (WLTP) Ex-showroom price
Sealion 7 71.8 kWh 440 km Rs 92,99,999

That is much higher than the launch price. In July 2025 The Himalayan Times and ShareSansar both reported Rs 74.99 lakh, with an early-bird price of Rs 72.99 lakh. Today's price is about Rs 18 lakh more than the 2025 list price (92.99 − 74.99).

We have not seen an official explanation from Cimex for the rise. The FY 2026/27 budget moved EV import taxes to a system based on the car's customs value, with the steepest rates for the most expensive EVs. Our FY 2026/27 EV tax guide explains how that works.

Registration, insurance and number plates are on top of the ex-showroom price. Ask the dealer for an itemised quote, and see our guide to road tax and insurance.

Battery, range and charging

Official Nepal figures from the Cimex specification table:

Spec Sealion 7
Battery 71.8 kWh (BYD Blade Battery)
Claimed range 440 km (WLTP)
Motor power 100 kW
Torque 380 Nm
0–100 km/h (claimed) 11.8 seconds
DC fast charging CCS2, up to 110 kW; 40 minutes from 20% to 80%
AC charging Type 2, 7 kW

What these mean in practice:

  • WLTP range is a laboratory figure. Expect less on hills, at highway speeds and with the air conditioning running.
  • Fast charging. 20% to 80% is 60% of the battery, about 43 kWh (71.8 × 0.6), in the claimed 40 minutes on a 110 kW DC charger. On a less powerful charger it takes longer.
  • Home charging. At 7 kW AC, a full charge from empty would take roughly 10 hours (71.8 ÷ 7 = 10.3), before charging losses. That is our arithmetic, not a Cimex figure. Ask the dealer what home charger is supplied and whether your house wiring can take it.
  • Motor power. Cimex lists 100 kW, and The Himalayan Times reported the same 100 kW rear-wheel-drive motor at launch. The European car tested by Green NCAP was a different specification with an 82.5 kWh battery, so do not read overseas reviews as describing the Nepal car.

Our EV charging guide covers home charging and public chargers in Nepal.

Equipment we can confirm

From the Cimex specification table:

  • Seats: 5 adults
  • Suspension: double wishbone at the front, multi-link at the rear
  • Brakes: ventilated and drilled discs at the front, ventilated discs at the rear

From launch reports in July 2025 (The Himalayan Times and ShareSansar):

  • 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
  • Top speed of 160 km/h
  • Built on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 with the battery built into the body structure (cell-to-body)

Cimex's Nepal page does not list dimensions, ground clearance, boot space, airbags or ADAS features. We have left them out rather than borrow overseas figures. Ask the dealer for the Nepal brochure.

Safety rating. Euro NCAP gave the Sealion 7 five stars in 2025: adult occupant 87%, child occupant 93%, vulnerable road users 76% and safety assist 79%. The tested car was a left-hand-drive European "Comfort" version. Its equipment may not match the Nepal car exactly.

Warranty: get it in writing

This is the one area where the official page lets buyers down. The warranty section on Cimex's Sealion 7 page does not yet list the actual terms.

At the 2025 launch, ShareSansar reported this early-buyer package:

  • Battery: 10 years / 2,00,000 km
  • Motor: 10 years / 1,87,500 km
  • Whole vehicle: 7 years / 1,50,000 km

That was described as an introductory offer, and we cannot confirm it applies to buyers today. For comparison, Cimex lists 8 years / 1,60,000 km on battery and vehicle for the Atto 3. Ask for the current Sealion 7 warranty booklet before you pay.

What it costs to run

Electricity

The Nepal Electricity Authority's domestic tariff (15-ampere single-phase meter) charges Rs 11 per unit above 250 units a month. A 5% VAT on household units above 50 a month started in July 2026, The Kathmandu Post reported. In September the government was weighing scrapping it. We use the higher figure, Rs 11.55 per unit.

A full charge at home (71.8 kWh, before charging losses): 71.8 × Rs 11.55 = about Rs 829.

Example: 1,500 km a month. The WLTP figure works out to about 16.3 kWh per 100 km (71.8 ÷ 440 × 100). For real use we assume 20 kWh per 100 km at the plug. That is our assumption. For context, Green NCAP measured 21.45 kWh per 100 km on a real-world mixed drive with the heavier European car (82.5 kWh battery, about 2.2 tonnes).

Per month Per km Over 5 years (90,000 km)
Electricity 1,500 × 0.20 = 300 units × Rs 11.55 = Rs 3,465 about Rs 2.31 about Rs 2.08 lakh

For comparison, our EV vs petrol guide works out a small petrol car at about Rs 14.29 per km with petrol at Rs 200 a litre.

Annual tax and loan

  • Vehicle tax: the 100 kW motor falls in the 51–125 kW band. Ratopati's FY 2083/84 table puts that at Rs 15,000 a year in Bagmati, and between Rs 7,500 and Rs 17,000 across provinces. Your bluebook's recorded motor power decides the band.
  • Loan: Nepal Rastra Bank caps private vehicle loans at 60% of value. On Rs 92,99,999 that is at most about Rs 55.80 lakh (92.99999 × 0.6), so you need at least about Rs 37.20 lakh yourself, plus registration, road tax and insurance. See the monthly figure in the EMI calculator.

What the table shows, in plain words:

  • Battery size. At this price, the Sealion 7's 71.8 kWh battery is smaller than those of the Deepal S07 L, MG IM6 and Mahindra XEV 9e listed above, all of which cost less or about the same.
  • Motor power on paper. Deepal lists 160 kW for the S07 L, and Mahindra lists 199 kW for the 79 kWh XEV 9e, compared with 100 kW for the Sealion 7 in Nepal.
  • Charging detail. Of the cars in this table, the Sealion 7 is the only one for which we found both the DC (110 kW) and AC (7 kW) charging power on the official Nepal site.
  • Range claims are not like for like. WLTP, MIDC and unnamed brand claims use different tests.

Who the Sealion 7 suits

  • Buyers who want BYD's largest SUV in Nepal, with a dealer and service network they already know from the Atto models.
  • Drivers who use DC fast chargers often, given the stated 110 kW DC rate.
  • Less suited to buyers chasing the most battery or motor power per rupee: on paper, several rivals in the table offer more of both for similar or less money.

What to check before buying

  1. Current warranty terms, in writing, since the official page shows none.
  2. Nepal brochure with dimensions, boot space, airbags and ADAS features.
  3. Motor power in the registration papers, which sets your annual tax band.
  4. Home charger supplied, installation cost and your wiring capacity.
  5. Service schedule and prices for the first three years.
  6. Final delivered price, including any current offers.
