The best SUV in Nepal depends on your budget: our picks are the Nissan Magnite and Dongfeng Nammi Vigo under Rs 40 lakh, the Hyundai Venue and BYD ATTO 2 under Rs 50 lakh, and the Hyundai Creta and BYD ATTO 3 under Rs 75 lakh. For diesel, the Mahindra Scorpio range covers Rs 66 lakh to Rs 1.36 crore, and the Toyota Fortuner leads above Rs 1 crore. For hatchbacks, sedans and every other body type, see the full car price in Nepal list.
"Best SUV in Nepal" is searched with a budget attached: under 40 lakh, 50 lakh, 60 lakh, 1 crore. So this guide is built the same way. Within each band we pick one SUV per fuel type with a single, open rule, then list the close alternatives.
Prices are indicative ex-showroom prices on the official distributor sites, checked in October 2026, for the cheapest version. Registration, road tax and insurance come on top. We have not driven these cars; everything below comes from published specifications and Nepali news reports.
How we picked
- Budget band: an SUV belongs to the band its cheapest version falls in.
- Pick: in each band and fuel type, the SUV with the highest popularity score. That is our 0–100 score built from reported sales and news coverage in Nepal. Popularity matters for a family car because it usually means more dealers, more workshops, easier parts and better resale.
- Check: we then read the official spec sheet. Where a brand publishes key facts (battery, range, warranty, airbags), we show them. Where it does not, we say so.
Popularity is not quality. If two SUVs are close, compare the published specs in the compare tool.

Best SUV under Rs 40 lakh
Only four SUVs start below Rs 40 lakh, and none is diesel.
- Petrol: Nissan Magnite (Rs 35,75,000 to Rs 53,99,000). The cheapest petrol SUV in Nepal, with 14 versions on Nissan Nepal's price list, including AMT automatics from Rs 40,49,000 and turbo versions from Rs 44,99,000. Nissan's Nepal site publishes little else, so check the airbag count with the dealer. The Hyundai Exter (from Rs 36,96,000; 1,197 cc, 61 kW) is the close alternative.
- Electric: Dongfeng Nammi Vigo (E2 Rs 37,99,000; E2+ Rs 43,99,000). A 51.87 kWh battery and 99 kW motor, with an 8-year or 2,00,000 km battery and motor warranty on the Dongfeng Nepal site. Dongfeng does not publish a range figure, which is the one thing to ask about. The cheaper Arcfox T1 (from Rs 32,96,000) is new to Nepal and has almost no published data yet.
Best SUV under Rs 50 lakh
This is the busiest band, with 16 SUVs.
- Petrol: Hyundai Venue (Rs 48,96,000 to Rs 67,96,000). Laxmi Intercontinental began selling a Nepal-assembled Venue in June 2024, ShareSansar reported. Versions run from a 1,197 cc manual to a 998 cc turbo with a DCT automatic. The Suzuki Brezza (from Rs 48,99,000) is a near tie on popularity; see our Brezza vs Venue comparison. Hyundai's new Bayon is not yet announced for Nepal; see our upcoming cars update. For the best published safety list in this band, look at the Kia Sonet (from Rs 42,90,000): Kia Nepal lists six airbags, ESC and 205 mm ground clearance.
- Electric: BYD ATTO 2 (Rs 45,95,000 to Rs 51,99,999). Launched at the NADA Auto Show in August 2025, ShareSansar reported. The Essential has a 45.12 kWh battery and 312 km range on the WLTP test, 200 mm ground clearance and a 6-year or 1,50,000 km battery and vehicle warranty. The MGS5 EV (from Rs 43,99,000) is the main rival.

Best SUV under Rs 75 lakh
- Petrol: Hyundai Creta (Rs 55,56,000 to Rs 80,56,000). The highest-scoring petrol SUV in Nepal on popularity. The Himalayan Times reported in September 2025 that the Creta launched in Nepal in 2015 and has remained one of the country's best-selling SUVs. All versions use a 1,497 cc petrol engine, with a manual or IVT automatic. Alternatives: Kia Seltos (from Rs 59,90,000; six airbags and ESC listed) and, if you want a hybrid, the Suzuki Victoris, launched in January 2026 according to The Himalayan Times, whose strong-hybrid versions claim 28.65 km/l and start at Rs 90,99,000.
- Diesel: Mahindra Scorpio Classic (Rs 66,00,000). One version, S MT 2WD, on Agni Mahindra's price list. If you want diesel for less, the Mahindra Bolero Neo (Rs 53,00,000) is a seven-seater, but scores lower on popularity.
- Electric: BYD ATTO 3 (Rs 62,90,000 to Rs 78,00,000). The most popular SUV in our data. The Advance has a 49.92 kWh battery, 345 km WLTP range, a 434-litre boot and an 8-year or 1,60,000 km battery and vehicle warranty.
Best SUV under Rs 1 crore
- Diesel: Mahindra Scorpio N (Rs 82,50,000 to Rs 1,36,00,000). A seven-seater in every version, with 2WD and 4WD manuals and a 4WD automatic. The Kathmandu Post reported that Mahindra unveiled it in Nepal in June 2022, at the same time as in India.
- Electric: BYD Sealion 7 (Rs 92,99,999). A 71.8 kWh battery, 440 km WLTP range and 110 kW DC charging on the Cimex site.
- Petrol: no petrol SUV starts in this band. The Mahindra XUV700 starts just below it at Rs 74,00,000, and its seven-seat versions cost Rs 87,75,000 and up.
Best SUV above Rs 1 crore
- Diesel: Toyota Fortuner (Rs 2,70,00,000 manual; Rs 2,83,00,000 automatic). A 2,755 cc diesel with 4WD, seven seats, seven airbags, ESC and 225 mm ground clearance, according to Toyota Nepal.
- Hybrid: Toyota Yaris Cross (Rs 1,29,00,000). The cheapest Toyota SUV: a 1,496 cc hybrid with a claimed 25 km/l, six airbags, ESC and 210 mm ground clearance.
- Electric: BMW iX1 eDrive20 (Rs 3,29,96,000). BMW's best-covered model in Nepal: a 66.5 kWh battery, 475 km WLTP range and 130 kW DC charging. Laxmi Premium Motors publishes no price, so the figure is the indicative price on our model page. If you want the cheapest electric SUV above Rs 1 crore, it is the Hyundai IONIQ 5 at Rs 1,03,96,000 (58 kWh, 375 km claimed, no test named).
Above Rs 1 crore, taxes do most of the work on price. If you are weighing a petrol SUV against an electric one, read how EV tax changed in FY 2026/27.
Running cost: petrol vs electric SUV
For example, with claimed figures and our own arithmetic, over 1,000 km a month:
| SUV | Claimed figure | Energy price | Cost per km | 1,000 km a month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Suzuki Fronx (petrol) | 21.5 km/l | Rs 200 per litre (NOC) | about Rs 9.30 | about Rs 9,302 |
| BYD ATTO 2 Essential | 45.12 kWh for 312 km (WLTP) | Rs 11.55 per unit (NEA top household rate plus 5% VAT) | about Rs 1.67 | about Rs 1,670 |
Real use is higher for both, but the gap stays large. Try your own numbers in the EV vs petrol cost calculator.
