The BYD Atto 2 costs Rs 45,95,000 to Rs 51,99,999 in Nepal (indicative ex-showroom), in three variants (Essential, Premium and Superior) with 312 km or 345 km of claimed WLTP range.

The BYD Atto 2 is a compact five-seat electric SUV, smaller and cheaper than the Atto 3. Cimex, BYD's distributor in Nepal, launched it at the NADA Auto Show in August 2025 in a single version at Rs 43.99 lakh, ShareSansar reported. A year later, at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo in August 2026, Cimex added a cheaper entry variant, the Essential, according to The Himalayan Times. The official price list now shows three variants.

This guide uses the official Nepal figures from the Cimex website. We have not driven the Atto 2, so we stick to what can be checked: prices, battery, range, features, warranty and running cost.

Indicative ex-showroom prices on the official site (checked October 2026):

Variant Battery Range (WLTP) Ex-showroom price
Essential 45.12 kWh 312 km Rs 45,95,000
Premium 51.13 kWh 345 km Rs 48,99,000
Superior 51.13 kWh 345 km Rs 51,99,999

What the price steps buy, on paper:

  • Essential to Premium: Rs 3.04 lakh more (48.99 − 45.95) for 6.01 kWh more battery and 33 km more claimed range.
  • Premium to Superior: about Rs 3.01 lakh more (51,99,999 − 48,99,000). The battery and range are the same on the Cimex site, and the site does not say what the Superior adds. Ask the dealer for a written list of the extra equipment before deciding whether it is worth the money.

The launch price of Rs 43.99 lakh in 2025 was for a 51.13 kWh car. The same battery now starts at Rs 48.99 lakh in the Premium. EV prices in Nepal moved after the FY 2026/27 budget changed how EVs are taxed; our FY 2026/27 EV tax guide explains the new system.

Ex-showroom prices leave out registration, insurance and number plates. Ask the dealer for an itemised quote, and see our guide to road tax and insurance.

Battery, range and charging

Spec (official Nepal figures) Essential Premium Superior
Battery 45.12 kWh 51.13 kWh 51.13 kWh
Claimed range 312 km (WLTP) 345 km (WLTP) 345 km (WLTP)
Motor power 100 kW 100 kW 100 kW
Torque 290 Nm 290 Nm not stated
0–100 km/h (claimed) 9 seconds 9 seconds 9 seconds

The battery is BYD's Blade Battery. The range figures come from the WLTP laboratory test. Real-world range is usually lower, especially on climbs, at highway speeds and in cold weather.

Charging: the Cimex Atto 2 page does not give a charging time, a DC fast charging power or an AC charging rate. Ask the dealer for all three, and for which home charger is included. At the 2025 launch, ShareSansar reported that a wall-mounted charger came with the car; check whether that still applies. Our EV charging guide covers home and public charging in Nepal.

Size, space and features we can confirm

From the Cimex specification table:

  • Seats: 5
  • Ground clearance: 200 mm (the Atto 3 lists 175 mm)
  • Boot: 380 litres, up to 1,320 litres with the 60/40 split rear seats folded
  • Tyres: 215/60 R17

Cimex does not give the length, width, height or wheelbase for the Nepal car, so we have left them out. Ground clearance matters on rough roads and steep driveways, so 200 mm is worth noting.

Features listed on the Cimex model page (not split by variant):

  • 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen with wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Vegan-leather front seats with ventilation
  • BYD app connectivity and digital key
  • 50 W wireless phone charging pad with cooling
  • Body with over 80% high-strength steel, according to Cimex

At the 2025 launch, ShareSansar reported six airbags and Level 2 ADAS driver assistance. The current Cimex page does not list airbags or ADAS by variant, so confirm what the Essential gets in particular, since it is the newest and cheapest version.

Independent testing. We found no Euro NCAP crash-test result for the Atto 2. It did score five stars in Green NCAP, Euro NCAP's sister programme that measures energy efficiency, not crash safety. That test used a European car with a 130 kW motor and a 42.4 kWh usable battery, so it is a different specification from the Nepal car.

Warranty

Cimex lists 6 years / 1,50,000 km on the battery and vehicle, with terms, conditions and exclusions. That is shorter than the 8 years / 1,60,000 km Cimex lists for the Atto 3. Ask for the warranty booklet and check what "vehicle" covers, the battery health threshold, and the service conditions. The Himalayan Times reported a 10-year extended warranty offer for buyers at the August 2026 expo; ask whether any such offer still runs.

What it costs to run

Electricity

On the Nepal Electricity Authority's domestic tariff (15-ampere single-phase meter), units above 250 a month cost Rs 11 each. A 5% VAT on household units above 50 a month applied from July 2026, The Kathmandu Post reported, and in September the government was considering removing it. We use the higher figure: Rs 11.55 per unit.

A full charge at home, ignoring charging losses:

  • Essential: 45.12 kWh × Rs 11.55 = about Rs 521
  • Premium or Superior: 51.13 kWh × Rs 11.55 = about Rs 591

Example: 1,500 km a month. The WLTP figures work out to about 14.5–14.8 kWh per 100 km (51.13 ÷ 345 × 100 = 14.8). We assume 18 kWh per 100 km at the plug for real use. That is our assumption. For context, Green NCAP measured 17.8 kWh per 100 km on its on-road drive with the European car.

Per month Per km Over 5 years (90,000 km)
Electricity 270 units × Rs 11.55 = Rs 3,119 about Rs 2.08 about Rs 1.87 lakh

Our EV vs petrol guide works out a small petrol car at about Rs 14.29 per km with petrol at Rs 200 a litre.

Annual tax and loan

  • Vehicle tax: a 100 kW motor sits in the 51–125 kW band. Ratopati's FY 2083/84 table puts that at Rs 15,000 a year in Bagmati, and between Rs 7,500 and Rs 17,000 across provinces.
  • Loan: Nepal Rastra Bank caps private vehicle loans at 60% of value. For example, on the Essential at Rs 45.95 lakh, the maximum loan is Rs 27.57 lakh (45.95 × 0.6), leaving at least Rs 18.38 lakh to pay yourself, plus registration, road tax and insurance. Work out the monthly payment in the EMI calculator.

On paper the MG S5 EV has a bigger boot (453 litres) than the Atto 2. But MG lists only 1 year of cover on the vehicle as a whole (8 years or 1,50,000 km on the battery), compared with the Atto 2's 6 years on both. Leapmotor's B03X page lists 145 kW, more motor power than the Atto 2's 100 kW.

Inside BYD, the Dolphin hatchback is Rs 41.15 lakh and the Atto 1 starts at Rs 30.75 lakh, if you do not need an SUV.

Who the Atto 2 suits

  • First-time EV buyers stepping up from a hatchback who want SUV height and 200 mm of ground clearance.
  • City commuters with home charging. The Essential's 312 km WLTP figure covers most daily driving with room to spare.
  • Buyers watching the budget. The Essential is the cheapest way into a BYD SUV in Nepal.
  • Not ideal if you regularly carry a lot of luggage (look at boot sizes of rivals) or want the longest warranty in BYD's range (the Atto 3 lists 8 years).

What to check before buying

  1. What the Superior adds over the Premium, in writing.
  2. Essential equipment: airbags, ADAS and features, compared with the Premium.
  3. Charging: DC power, AC rate, charge times, and the home charger included.
  4. Warranty booklet: coverage, battery health limit and service rules.
  5. Service cost for the first three years.
  6. Offers: expo and festival deals change often, so compare the final delivered price.
