Ather Rizta vs Ather 450 in Nepal: which Ather should you buy?
Wheels of Nepal · Last updated: · 10 min read
Buy the Rizta if you want more storage and a lower price for the same range; buy the 450 if you want quicker acceleration and a 90 km/h top speed. Both come in three variants, priced from Rs 3,19,900 to Rs 4,34,900 on Ather Nepal's official list.
Ather Energy sells two electric scooters in Nepal through its distributor, Vaidya Energy. The Rizta is the newer, family-focused scooter with a big seat and lots of storage. The 450 is the older, sportier design with more power and quicker charging. Each comes in three variants, and their prices overlap, from Rs 3,19,900 to Rs 4,34,900. Here is how they compare.
This guide compares all six from Ather Nepal's official figures. We have not ridden either scooter, so we stick to what the numbers show and leave the feel of the ride to your test ride.
First, the confusing names: Base, LR, R35, Rizta S and Rizta Z
If you have looked at Ather's Nepali website, you may have seen the Rizta named two different ways.
- The price list (Ather Nepal's blog, 9 October 2026) and the Rizta page's pricing table use Rizta Base, Rizta LR and Rizta R35.
- The online booking form offers just two choices: Rizta S (listed with a 2.7 kWh battery and 123 km IDC range) and Rizta Z (3.5 kWh, 161 km IDC).
Matching the battery and range figures:
| Booking-form name | Battery and range on the form | Price-list variants with the same battery and range |
|---|---|---|
| Rizta S | 2.7 kWh, 123 km | Rizta Base (and the Rizta LR uses the same battery) |
| Rizta Z | 3.5 kWh, 161 km | Rizta R35 |
The Base and the LR have the same 2.7 kWh battery and 123 km range. The LR costs Rs 60,000 more. For that, the price list adds connected features such as Google Maps navigation, and the Rizta page lists a longer battery warranty (8 years instead of up to 5) and more colours. The booking form does not show which name the LR falls under. When you book, write the price-list name (Base, LR or R35) and the price on your booking slip, so there is no doubt about which scooter you are paying for.
The 450 is named the same way on both pages: 450S, 450X LR and 450X R35.
One more thing: when the Rizta S went on sale in March 2026, ShareSansar reported its price as Rs 2,94,900. The current price list puts the Rizta Base at Rs 3,19,900. Prices change, so always check the latest official list.

| Rizta LR | Rs 3,79,900 | 2.7 kWh | 123 km |
| 450X LR | Rs 3,99,900 | 2.9 kWh | 126 km |

Two things stand out:
- At each step, the Rizta costs less than the 450 with the same range. The Rizta R35 and 450X R35 share a 3.5 kWh battery and the same 161 km claim, with Rs 15,000 between them. The Rizta Base and 450S sit Rs 20,000 apart, with near-identical range.
- Battery size, not model, decides range. If range matters most, the choice is really between the R35 versions.
The IDC figure is a lab test, so expect less on real roads. Ather's 450 page also quotes its own "TrueRange" estimates: 105 km for the 450S and 450X LR, and 130 km for the 450X R35. We did not find a TrueRange figure for the Rizta. See our glossary on range and test cycles.
Performance
| Figure | Rizta (all variants) | 450 |
|---|---|---|
| Peak power | 4.3 kW | up to 6.4 kW |
| Torque | 22 Nm | not given per variant |
| Top speed | 80 km/h | 90 km/h |
| 0–40 km/h | 4.7 seconds | 3.9 s (450S), 3.3 s (450X LR and R35) |
Rizta figures and the 450's peak power are from Ather Nepal's price-list blog. The 450's top speed and acceleration are from its model page.
| Rizta (all variants) | 4.7 s |
|---|---|
| 450S | 3.9 s |
| 450X LR | 3.3 s |
| 450X R35 | 3.3 s |

The numbers tell a clear story. The 450 is the quicker scooter, with about 50% more peak power, a higher top speed and faster acceleration from a standstill. The Rizta is the calmer, more practical design. We cannot tell you how either feels on a Kathmandu hill. That is what your test ride is for. Take a passenger along if you usually ride two-up.
Charging
Both scooters charge from an ordinary home socket. Ather's blog lists a 900 W home charger for both.
| Variant | Home charging time (official) |
|---|---|
| Rizta Base and LR (2.7 kWh) | about 4 h 10 min, 0–100% |
| Rizta R35 (3.5 kWh) | about 4 h 30 min, 0–100% |
| 450S and 450X LR (2.9 kWh) | 2 h 45 min, 0–80% |
| 450X R35 (3.5 kWh) | 3 h 25 min, 0–80% |
| 450 range overall | about 4 to 4.5 hours, 0–100% (price-list blog) |
The figures are not like-for-like: Ather quotes the 450 to 80% and the Rizta to 100%. Charging to full takes about the same time on both, roughly four to four and a half hours. In practice, either will be full by morning after an overnight charge. Learn more about AC charging in our glossary.
Storage, features and colours
Storage is where the Rizta wins clearly. Ather Nepal's Rizta page lists a 34-litre boot under the seat plus a 22-litre front storage box (a "frunk"). We did not find a storage figure on the Nepali 450 page, so ask the showroom whether your helmet fits under the seat.
Features from the price-list blog:
- Both have Park Assist (a slow reverse mode), AutoHold, FallSafe and Guide Me Home lights, plus coasting regeneration (regenerative braking when you roll off the throttle).
- Rizta adds an emergency stop signal. Higher variants get Skid Control and Magic Twist. The LR and R35 get connected features: Google Maps navigation, the Ather app, find-my-scooter, live location sharing, trip planning, WhatsApp previews on the dashboard, and tow and theft alerts.
- 450: higher variants add multi-mode traction control, Infinite Cruise and Magic Twist. Selected variants get Google Maps navigation, live location sharing, trip planning, tow and theft alerts and over-the-air updates.
Colours: the Rizta Base comes in four colours, while the LR and R35 offer nine, including two-tone "Duo" finishes. The 450S and 450X LR come in five colours and the 450X R35 in seven.
Warranty
| Rizta | 450 | |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | up to 5 years (Base, terms apply); 8 years (LR, R35) | up to 8 years or 80,000 km |
| Scooter | not stated on the Rizta page | 3 years or 30,000 km |
The 450 page also lists Ather's Eight70 extended battery warranty as an optional add-on for the 2.9 kWh models, priced at Rs 9,999 or Rs 12,499. Ask exactly what is included as standard on the variant you choose, and get it in writing.
Running cost
Running costs are almost identical, because the batteries are similar in size. Using the Nepal Electricity Authority's top domestic rate of Rs 11 per unit plus 5% VAT on household units above 50 a month, we get Rs 11.55 per unit, the highest likely rate:
| Battery | One full charge | Per km at the IDC range |
|---|---|---|
| 2.7 kWh (Rizta Base, LR) | 2.7 × 11.55 = Rs 31.19 | 31.19 ÷ 123 = about Rs 0.25 |
| 2.9 kWh (450S, 450X LR) | 2.9 × 11.55 = Rs 33.50 | 33.50 ÷ 122 = about Rs 0.27 |
| 3.5 kWh (both R35) | 3.5 × 11.55 = Rs 40.43 | 40.43 ÷ 161 = about Rs 0.25 |
These figures charge from empty to full and ignore charging losses. Real-world range is lower than IDC: using Ather's 130 km TrueRange for the 450X R35 instead, the cost is 40.43 ÷ 130 = about Rs 0.31 per km. Either way, it is a fraction of a petrol scooter's cost.
Over five years, the difference between a Rizta and a 450 on electricity is a few hundred rupees. Do not let running cost decide this choice. Our EV vs petrol 5-year cost guide and EMI calculator help with the bigger money picture.
Which Ather suits whom?
Choose the Rizta if:
- you carry shopping, a second helmet or a child's school bag often, since 34 + 22 litres of storage is hard to beat;
- you ride mostly in town at moderate speeds;
- you want the lowest Ather price (the Base) or the most range per rupee (the R35);
- your family will share the scooter.
Choose the 450 if:
- you value quicker acceleration and a 90 km/h top speed for ring roads and highways;
- you want the 450's fuller scooter warranty (3 years or 30,000 km) in writing;
- you are happy to trade storage space for performance.
Within either model: pick the R35 if you ride more than about 60–70 km a day, or often ride hill routes with a passenger. Pick the Base or 450S if your daily distance is modest and you charge at home every night. The LR versions make sense if you want the connected features and, for the Rizta, the longer battery warranty.
Before you buy
- Confirm the variant name and price on paper: Base, LR or R35 (or 450S, 450X LR, 450X R35).
- Ask for the full warranty terms, both scooter and battery, and whether they transfer to a second owner.
- Check the nearest Ather service point to your home. ShareSansar reported 10 Ather Experience Centres in Nepal in March 2026.
- Take a test ride on your own route, ideally including a hill.
- Budget for registration and insurance on top of the ex-showroom price.
