Who it suits: Riders who want an upright 400 cc scrambler for city riding and the occasional rough road, without paying extra for the XC.
Triumph's Scrambler 400 X shares its 398.15 cc single-cylinder engine with the Speed 400, rated at 29.4 kW and 37.5 Nm through a six-speed gearbox, but wraps it in a taller, more upright package. In Nepal it carries an indicative ex-showroom price of Rs 7,77,900 (official site, October 2026) for the default colour.
The chassis is built around a 19-inch front wheel (100/90 tyre) and a 17-inch rear (140/80), with 43 mm upside-down big-piston forks and a gas monoshock with an external reservoir. Both ends get 150 mm of travel, and the rear shock is preload adjustable. Braking is a 320 mm front disc with a four-piston radial caliper and a 230 mm rear disc with a ByBre floating caliper, with ABS front and rear. Triumph quotes a wet weight of 179 kg and a 13-litre tank.
The official fuel consumption figure is 3.5 L/100 km on the EU 168/2013 test, which works out to a claimed 28.6 km/l; real-world use in traffic and on hills will differ. The seat height is 835 mm. Compared with the XC version, the X costs Rs 78,000 less and weighs 7 kg less, and four two-tone colours are listed.
