Mahindra Scorpio N vs Scorpio Classic in Nepal: price, variants and specs compared
Wheels of Nepal · Last updated: · 9 min read
The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is the cheaper choice in Nepal at Rs 66,00,000, but it comes in one variant only: 2WD with a manual gearbox. The Scorpio N starts at Rs 82,50,000 and is the only one of the two sold with 4WD, an automatic gearbox and six airbags, up to Rs 1,36,00,000 for the top Z8L. Other Mahindra prices are in our Mahindra car price in Nepal guide.
"Scorpio N price in Nepal" and "Scorpio Classic price in Nepal" are among the most searched SUV queries in the country, along with "top model", "4WD" and "Scorpio N vs Scorpio Classic which is better". Both are diesel, body-on-frame SUVs sold by Mahindra's Nepal distributor, Agni Incorporated, and both carry the Scorpio name, but they are different generations. This guide compares them from the official price list and Mahindra's published specifications. We have not driven either for this article, so there are no driving impressions.

A few things the price list makes clear:
- The Scorpio N top model in Nepal is the Z8L 4WD automatic at Rs 1,36,00,000, more than double the Classic's price.
- 4WD costs Rs 10,50,000 extra on the Scorpio N Z4 (Rs 93 lakh against Rs 82.5 lakh).
- There is no Scorpio Classic S11 or 4WD in Nepal. Many buyers search for the S11, which is sold in India, but Agni's Nepal list shows only the Classic S with 2WD and a manual gearbox, in 7- or 9-seat form.
- No petrol Scorpio N. Mahindra sells a petrol Scorpio N in India, but every Nepal variant is diesel.
Scorpio N prices have crept up since launch. When Agni introduced it in July 2023, Business 360 reported introductory prices of Rs 81.5 lakh for the Z4 2WD MT, Rs 90 lakh for the Z4 4WD MT and Rs 1.14 crore for the Z8 4WD MT. The same three variants now cost Rs 82.5 lakh, Rs 93 lakh and Rs 1.155 crore.
Engine and gearbox
Both use Mahindra's 2.2-litre mHawk diesel, but in different tunes.
| Scorpio Classic | Scorpio N | |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | 2.2 L Gen-2 mHawk diesel | 2.2 L mHawk diesel |
| Power | 97 kW (132 PS)* | 128.6 kW (Agni); Mahindra India also lists a 97 kW tune* |
| Torque | 300 Nm* | 400 Nm (Agni, automatic); 370 Nm with the manual* |
| Gearbox in Nepal | 6-speed manual | 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic (Z8L) |
| Drive in Nepal | 2WD | 2WD or 4WD |
| Claimed fuel economy | not published | not published |
* Mahindra India figures (global spec, may differ in Nepal).
The Scorpio N's 128.6 kW / 400 Nm figure is the one Agni publishes on its Scorpio N page, next to the 6-speed automatic. Mahindra India lists 370 Nm for the manual and also a lower 97 kW / 300 Nm diesel for some lower variants, and Agni does not say which tune each Nepal variant gets. Ask the dealer which engine output your chosen variant has, especially for the Z4.
Neither Agni nor Mahindra India publishes a fuel economy figure on the pages we checked, so we do not give one.
4WD and off-road hardware
This is the biggest practical difference for many Nepali buyers. The Scorpio Classic in Nepal is 2WD only. On the Scorpio N, Agni's page lists rear-wheel drive with selectable 4X4 High and 4X4 Low, shift-on-the-fly 4X4 High, a mechanical locking differential, an electronic brake-locking differential, and Mahindra's 4Xplor terrain modes. Agni's page does not say which items are on which variant, so check the Z4 4WD and Z8 specifications at the showroom. If you would rather have a cargo bed, Mahindra's new body-on-frame pickup is coming: see the Scorpio Lifestyler and its expected Nepal price.
Safety and features
| Scorpio Classic | Scorpio N | |

| Seats in Nepal | 7 or 9 | 7 |
* Mahindra India figures (global spec, may differ in Nepal). Agni's Scorpio N features are listed for the model, not per variant.
On safety, the gap is clear on paper: six airbags and ESP on the Scorpio N against two airbags on the Classic. At the Scorpio N's Nepal launch, Business 360 also reported a 5-star adult and 3-star child occupant rating. The Classic's one advantage in this table is its 9-seat option, useful for large families or hire work.
Buyers also search for the two models' height, dimensions and ground clearance. Neither Agni's pages nor Mahindra India's pages that we could access publish those figures in text, so ask for the brochure.
Warranty: Business 360 reported a 3-year or 1,00,000 km warranty plan for the Scorpio N at its 2023 launch. Agni's current pages do not state warranty terms for either model, so confirm them on your invoice.

| Loan (60%) | Rs 39,60,000 | Rs 49,50,000 |
| EMI over 5 years | about Rs 80,276 a month | about Rs 1,00,344 a month |

Registration, road tax and insurance come on top of the down payment. Try your own figures in the EMI calculator and read our auto loan guide. For the yearly costs, see bluebook renewal, road tax and insurance.
Which suits whom
What we like
- Scorpio Classic: Rs 16.5 lakh cheaper than the cheapest Scorpio N, with a 9-seat option
- Scorpio N: the only Scorpio in Nepal with 4WD, an automatic gearbox and six airbags
- Scorpio N: more power and torque on Agni's figures (128.6 kW / 400 Nm)
What could be better
- Scorpio Classic: one variant only in Nepal, 2WD manual, two airbags
- Scorpio N: Agni does not say which engine tune and features each variant gets
- Neither publishes a fuel economy figure or current warranty terms on the Nepal site
- Choose the Scorpio Classic if you want the lowest price for a diesel Scorpio, need nine seats, and do not need 4WD or an automatic.
- Choose the Scorpio N Z4 2WD if you want the newer model's six airbags and features but drive mostly on paved roads.
- Choose a Scorpio N 4WD (Rs 93 lakh and up) if you need 4WD for hill roads, and the Z8L if you want an automatic.
