Kerb weight is the weight of the scooter with fuel and fluids, ready to ride, as the maker states it. A lighter scooter is generally easier to push, turn and park, but weight is only one part of how a scooter feels. We have not ridden these scooters, so we say nothing about comfort or balance. Sit on the scooter before you buy, because height and weight feel different from rider to rider.

The Fascino and RayZR are listed by Yamaha as mild-hybrid petrol scooters (a small electric assist on the petrol engine, not a plug-in). Where a model has several versions, the range shows the lightest and heaviest version on the official page. The twelve scooters above are the ones with a kerb weight in our catalogue. Registration, road tax and insurance come on top of every price.

Seat height: who publishes it?

Seat height matters as much as weight for many riders, because it decides whether you can put a foot flat on the ground. Fewer makers publish it.

Scooter Seat height Wheelbase
Aprilia Storm 125 755 mm 1,365 mm
Hero Xoom 110 770 mm 1,300 mm
Vespa 125 range 770 mm 1,290 mm
Yamaha Fascino 125 780 mm 1,280 mm
Yamaha RayZR 125 785 mm 1,280 mm
Aprilia SR 160 and SR 175 780 mm 1,365 mm
Suzuki Avenis 125 780 mm 1,265 mm
Suzuki Burgman Street 125 780 mm 1,265 mm
Yamaha Aerox 155 790 mm 1,350 mm

Honda (Dio), the Suzuki Access, TVS (Ntorq, Jupiter) and the Hero Xoom 125R pages in our data do not list a seat height. A scooter that is light but has an unlisted seat height still needs a sit-down test. Note that the lowest seat height (the Aprilia Storm 125, 755 mm) comes with no published weight, so it does not appear in the weight ranking.

Light does not mean small

The Dio and Access have the shortest wheelbase in the list at 1,260 mm, with the Avenis and Burgman at 1,265 mm. The two lightest, the Fascino and RayZR, have a 1,280 mm wheelbase. The Ntorq family is 1,285 mm and the Aerox 155 is 1,350 mm. Ground clearance across these scooters runs from 155 mm (Xoom 110, Ntorq) to 171 mm (Dio 125), and the Aerox 155, RayZR and Fascino are the lowest at 145 mm. Low ground clearance matters over high speed breakers, so check it against the roads you ride.

What we like

  • Yamaha Fascino 125: the lightest published weight (98 kg), from Rs 2,80,000, with a 780 mm seat
  • Honda Dio 110: the lightest non-hybrid (103 kg) and the shortest wheelbase (1,260 mm)
  • Suzuki Access 125 and Avenis 125: 105 to 106 kg, from Rs 2,83,900
  • Hero Xoom 110: the lowest price of the light ones, Rs 2,55,900, with a 770 mm seat

What could be better

  • Fascino and RayZR: 145 mm ground clearance, the lowest with the Aerox
  • Honda and Suzuki Access pages: no seat height published
  • Heavier scooters (Ntorq, Xoom 125R, Aerox): bigger engines but 115 to 126 kg

How to test a scooter in the showroom

  • Sit on it flat-footed. Put both feet down with the scooter upright and see whether your heels reach the ground.
  • Lift it off the side stand. Pull it back and push it forward a few steps, as you would when parking in a narrow space.
  • Check the storage. Put your helmet under the seat and see whether it closes.
  • Ask for the numbers. Kerb weight and seat height for the exact version, in writing if the website does not list them.
  • Look at the brakes. Our Dio 110 vs Dio 125 guide shows how much the front brake differs across a single family.

If you are also considering an electric scooter, they are often heavier because of the battery, and each maker states weight differently. See our electric scooter guide and compare the numbers on each model page.
