Searches for "cheapest electric car in Nepal" and "cheapest EV car in Nepal under 30 lakhs" are growing, and no wonder: electric models were about 69% of the cars, jeeps and vans Nepal imported in FY 2025/26, Himal Press reported from customs data. Below are the 20 lowest-priced electric cars on sale, ranked by the price of the cheapest version. Vans and pickups are left out.

Prices are indicative ex-showroom prices, checked in October 2026. Most come from the official distributor sites. Where a brand publishes no price (Seres, Henrey, Arcfox, Citroën and GWM), we use the indicative price on our model page; confirm it with the dealer. Registration, road tax and insurance come on top. We have not driven these cars.

Why the cheapest is not always the best value

The cheapest cars are micro cars with small batteries. The Seres Mini EV, Wuling Mini EV and BAW Brumby all have batteries of about 14 to 16 kWh and four seats, and the Seres has three doors. They suit city trips; they are not built for highway runs to Pokhara. If you can stretch to Rs 34–38 lakh, our comparison of the Kia Syros EV, Tata Punch.ev and Nammi Vigo shows what a full-size battery and SUV body add.

Range figures also need care. Brands quote range on different tests, and they are not comparable. CLTC (China) and NEDC give higher numbers than WLTP, and many cheap EVs name no test at all. Our guide to WLTP, CLTC and NEDC explains the gap.

So for a fair value test we only compared the cars that publish a WLTP range, and divided the starting price by that range. This is our own arithmetic, not a brand figure: it shows how many rupees of purchase price you pay for each kilometre of claimed WLTP range.

Starting price per km of claimed WLTP range (Rs per km, lower is better)
Starting price per km of claimed WLTP range (Rs per km, lower is better)
Leapmotor B03X11,777 Rs/km
MG4 EV Comfort11,854 Rs/km
BYD Dolphin12,103 Rs/km
Leapmotor T0312,830 Rs/km
MGS5 EV Comfort 49 kWh12,938 Rs/km
BYD ATTO 1 Dynamic13,370 Rs/km
Proton e.MAS 5 Prime14,662 Rs/km
BYD ATTO 2 Essential14,728 Rs/km

Source: Our arithmetic: starting price ÷ claimed WLTP range, from official Nepal sites via our catalogue, October 2026

On that measure, the Rs 41–45 lakh cars (Leapmotor B03X, MG4 EV, BYD Dolphin) give more range per rupee than the cheapest WLTP-rated cars. If you can stretch the budget, you buy a lot more range.

Notes on the cheapest picks

  • Seres Mini EV (Rs 17,49,000): the cheapest EV. Seres Nepal publishes a full spec sheet but no price; the Mid and High trims also have no price. The Low Trim has a driver airbag and ABS with EBD.
  • Wuling Mini EV (Rs 20,99,000): the cheapest EV with a published battery warranty: 8 years or 1,50,000 km on the battery and motor. Two airbags and ESC are listed.
  • Kaiyi e-Qute 04 (Rs 25,96,000): the biggest published battery under Rs 30 lakh, 28.08 kWh.
  • BYD ATTO 1 (Rs 30,75,000): the cheapest BYD, and the cheapest car here with a WLTP range (230 km; the Premium claims 300 km for Rs 34,80,000). The Dynamic has four airbags, the Premium six.
  • Dongfeng Nammi Box (Rs 30,99,000): an 8-year or 2,00,000 km battery and motor warranty, the longest published in this list (the Nammi Vigo has the same).
  • Proton e.MAS 5 (Rs 32,99,000): Proton labels this a special launch price that already includes the charges to put the car on the road, except insurance, so compare it with care: it is not an ex-showroom price like the others. The Himalayan Times reported an introductory price of Rs 29.99 lakh for the first 100 buyers at the July 2026 launch.

For a ranking of the best (not just the cheapest) EVs in this budget, see best electric cars under Rs 40 lakh; for petrol and electric together, best cars under Rs 30 lakh.

Before you buy a cheap EV: five checks

  1. Ask for the battery size. The Henrey Mincar, Kaiyi e-Qute 02 and Arcfox T1 do not publish one on their Nepal sites. Battery size in kWh is the one number that is the same on every test, so get it in writing.
  2. Ask which test the range is on. Five of the six cheapest cars name no test at all. Treat an unnamed figure as a best case.
  3. Check fast charging. Among the cheapest cars, Wuling lists DC charging for the Mini EV (30–80% in 35 minutes). Seres lists only AC charging for the Mini EV, at 3.3 kW, taking about 4 hours. Proton lists 30–80% in 21 minutes for the e.MAS 5; Leapmotor lists 36 minutes for the T03 and Citroën 57 minutes (10–80%) for the ë-C3. If you plan highway trips, DC charging matters; see our guide to EV charging in Nepal.
  4. Get the warranty in writing. Only some of these brands publish a battery warranty on their Nepal site (Wuling, Dongfeng, BYD, Leapmotor and MG do). Ask for years and kilometres, and whether it covers the motor.
  5. Ask what the price includes. As the Proton example shows, not every advertised price means the same thing.

What a cheap EV costs to run

For example, using the Wuling Mini EV Standard Range's claimed figures: 16.2 kWh for 205 km (CLTC) is about 7.9 kWh per 100 km. At Rs 11.55 a unit (NEA's top household rate of Rs 11 plus 5% VAT), that is about Rs 0.91 per km, or about Rs 913 a month for 1,000 km. Real use will be higher, because CLTC is a gentle test and charging loses some energy. A home charging point and wiring add cost too: see our home EV charger guide. Work out your own figures in the EV charging cost calculator.
