Who it suits: Buyers with a large budget who want a rugged-looking 4WD SUV with hybrid power for highway trips and rough roads outside the valley.
The BJ30e is a square-shouldered five-seat SUV that pairs a 1,498 cc turbo petrol engine with electric motors front and rear. In the 4WD LV5 form we list, BAIC quotes a combined 301 kW and 685 Nm, sent through a DHT hybrid transmission to all four wheels. It is a self-charging hybrid, so there is no plug to worry about; the battery is topped up by the engine and braking.
Numbers that matter on Nepali roads look good on paper: 215 mm of ground clearance, a 2,820 mm wheelbase and 235/60 R19 tyres. At 4,730 mm long and 1,770 kg it is a full-size vehicle, so tight Kathmandu lanes and parking will take some care. The fuel tank holds 51 litres. Suspension is independent at both ends (McPherson front, multi-link rear), with disc brakes all round. Inside there is a 14.6-inch centre screen and a sunroof with a curtain.
BAIC's Nepal site does not publish a price. The reported launch price is Rs 1,19,96,000 ex-showroom, which puts it in serious money. The official spec sheet is labelled a global version and also lists petrol and two-wheel-drive versions; whether those come to Nepal is not stated, so check with the dealer.
