7.2/ 10
Overall
Good
A practical family EV: the largest boot in its price group, fast DC charging and honest WLTP range figures from Rs 43.99 lakh. Buy the 62 kWh version if you drive out of the valley often, and get the warranty terms in writing.
- Best for
- Families who want boot space and quick charging in an electric SUV under Rs 56 lakh, mostly in and around the valley.
- Think twice if
- Buyers who want a long whole-car warranty, or the longest claimed range at the lowest price.

How it scores
- Value for money8 / 10
Rs 43.99 lakh for a 49.1 kWh battery and 453 L boot undercuts the BYD Atto 2 (Rs 45.95 lakh, 45.12 kWh, 380 L).
- Range, charging & running cost7.5 / 10
340 km WLTP (49 kWh) or 430 km (62 kWh), with 120–150 kW DC charging: 10–80% in about 24–26 minutes, per MG.
- Space & practicality8.5 / 10
453 L boot, 2,730 mm wheelbase and 175–180 mm ground clearance; the biggest listed boot among its closest rivals.
- Features & safety6 / 10
Disc brakes all round and a rear camera on Comfort, but MG Nepal's page does not list airbags, ESC or driver-assist features.
- Ownership in Nepal6 / 10
8-year/150,000 km battery warranty is strong, but the vehicle itself is covered for only 1 year (3 years for high-voltage parts).

Last checked:
The MG S5 EV is a five-seat electric SUV sold in Nepal in three versions: two with a 49.1 kWh battery and one with a 62.2 kWh battery. MG lists them at Rs 43.99 lakh, Rs 50.99 lakh and Rs 55.99 lakh, marked as introductory prices. This is a desk review: we read MG Nepal's official specifications and compared them with the closest rivals that publish a price. We have not driven it, so there is nothing here about ride or handling.
What we like
- 453-litre boot, the largest listed among its closest priced rivals
- Fast DC charging: about 120 kW (49 kWh) or 150 kW (62 kWh), 10–80% in roughly 24–26 minutes
- Range quoted on the stricter WLTP test: 340 km or 430 km
- 8-year / 150,000 km battery warranty
What could be better
- Vehicle warranty is only 1 year (high-voltage parts 3 years / 100,000 km)
- Airbags, ESC and driver-assist features are not listed on MG Nepal's page
- Prices are "introductory", so they may rise
Price and versions
| Version | Battery | Claimed range (WLTP) | Price (official, Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comfort | 49.1 kWh | 340 km | Rs 43,99,000 |
| Luxury | 49.1 kWh | 340 km | Rs 50,99,000 |
| Luxury | 62.2 kWh | 430 km | Rs 55,99,000 |
All three use the same 99 kW rear motor with 250 Nm of torque and a stated top speed of 175 km/h. The Rs 7 lakh step from Comfort to the 49 kWh Luxury buys equipment, not range. The extra Rs 5 lakh for the 62 kWh Luxury buys 90 km more claimed range and faster DC charging. If you regularly drive to Pokhara, Chitwan or further, that last step is the one that matters.
Range and charging
MG quotes WLTP figures: 340 km for the 49.1 kWh battery and 430 km for the 62.2 kWh. Many brands in Nepal quote NEDC or their own "claimed" figures, which are higher on paper; MG's site also gives NEDC numbers of 415 and 515 km. Compare like with like: the BYD Atto 2 is 312–345 km WLTP and the Leapmotor B03X 382 km WLTP.
| MG S5 EV 62 kWh | 430 km |
|---|---|
| Leapmotor B03X | 382 km |
| Proton e.MAS 7 Prime | 345 km |
| MG S5 EV 49 kWh | 340 km |
| BYD Atto 2 Essential | 312 km |

DC fast charging is listed at about 120 kW for the 49 kWh battery and 150 kW for the 62 kWh, with 10–80% in about 24 and 26 minutes. Home charging on AC is 7 kW. Real range in the hills, with the air-conditioning on, will be lower than any test figure. Plan with a margin.
Space and practicality
At 4,476 mm long with a 2,730 mm wheelbase, the S5 EV is a compact SUV, but its 453-litre boot is the largest listed among its closest priced rivals. The BYD Atto 2 lists 380 litres, and Leapmotor and Proton do not publish a figure on their Nepal pages. Ground clearance is 175 mm on Comfort and 180 mm on Luxury. That is fine for city roads and speed bumps, though lower than the 200 mm the Atto 2 lists.
Features and safety
MG Nepal's page lists disc brakes front and rear, MacPherson front and five-link rear suspension, and a rear camera on the Comfort version. It does not list airbags, electronic stability control or driver-assist systems, and the camera on the Luxury versions is not readable. Ask the showroom for the equipment list in writing, especially the airbag count, before you pay a booking amount.
Owning one in Nepal
The battery warranty is 8 years or 150,000 km, and high-voltage components are covered for 3 years or 100,000 km. The rest of the car is covered for 1 year only. The BYD Atto 2 lists 6 years for both vehicle and battery. The live box above shows the current price, an EMI example at today's bank rates, the yearly electricity cost at 1,000 km a month, and how many MG showrooms and service points we list.

Verdict
The MG S5 EV makes the most sense if you want space and quick charging for the money. Its boot is the biggest in this group, its range figures are on the stricter WLTP test, and DC charging is quick. The weak points are on paper too: a 1-year vehicle warranty and no published safety equipment list. Choose the 62 kWh version for regular highway trips, and settle the warranty and safety questions with the dealer before booking.
